home sweet home

i'm starting to feel more and more grown up these days and realizing that i am indeed in my mid-twenties, doing mid-twenty like things. if i thought getting married was a big step, that's a walk in the park compared to our latest stunt.
today, we listed our condo and tomorrow it will be up on mls.ca
wow.
we'll officially be in home #2/"our very first freaking house" on november 28* sweet 8 pound five ounce baby jesus! not only is it a new home for us to live in marital bliss and make babies (that thought also conjurs up a "holy crap"!!)....eventually, but at the moment it's a patch of dirt. makes me a little nervous, but ken has convinced me that everything i see on "holmes on homes" won't happen to us and has thus turned my nerves to feelings of excitement and anticipation.
but seriously. saturdays will now be spent at the home depot (ken's heaven, opening oct.'06 in c'wood - i know this only because he plans to take the day off work and go on a massive building/shopping spree and it's marked in big red letters on the calendar) browsing the cupboard aisle and picking from the palettes of floor stain. if there's enough time we might even hit up a little bed bath and beyond - i just don't know if there will be time.** it's pretty daunting and way grown up but it will be worth it in the long run once we have paint chips and blueprints on paper to color on the 3 dimensional wall.
i think if our house were to be listed on mls.ca it would sound a litlte something like this:
a charming but modern raised bungalow in the heart of town, located minutes walking distance from the main street and schools (this translates into "stumbling distance from downtown bars and restaurants for those nights hwen you're too drunk and cheap to drive or get a cab). set on a deep, but narrow lot, this brand new building is surrounded by age old character and big huge trees (i don't know what kind they actually are, just that they're big...and huge). 2 bedrooms and an open concept living space with plenty of natural light complements the hardwood flooring and modern design touches. the couple living here have smashing taste in decor and have done an excellent job making this space cozy, clean and cool....they must rock. the main selling feature is the heated floors in the ensuite bath. perfect for nights when your feet reach hypothermic temperatures and they need a little help with circulation and blood flow (if you experience chest pains, vomitting, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness or seizures, please consult your physician. heated floors are not recommended for everyone, especially those with a history of heart disease, stroke and perpetual diarrhea. ask your doctor if heated floors are right for you).

thankfully, i'm free of those medical conditions and plan to make the heated floor my hotspot (no pun intended) of the house. in fact, i may just stash a sleeping bag under the counter for those nights hwen it's really really really really really really really really really cold.
ken assures me this won't happen though because of our new high efficiency furnace, top quality insulation and programmable thermostat.
see? i am grown up...or just dorky. who knew that thermostats and furnaces could get me going? wow. big. freaking. grown up. dork.

*barring any unforeseen obstacles/untimely injuries/illnesses/constant diarrhea by our builder, joe. in the event of a postponed closing date/move in...well, we're f'd and you'll probably hear us knockin' on your door looking for a couch to crash on - don't worry, it's only temporary
**kudos to anyone who got that reference! do you think kfc is still open?!?
